On this website you will find useful information about our <a href=\"http:\/\/mullrich.user.jacobs-university.de\/projects\/\">research work<\/a> and the members of our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mullrich.user.jacobs-university.de\/group-molecular-microbiology-jacobs-university\/\">group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Molecular Microbiology Laboratory is headed by Matthias Ullrich, Professor of Microbiology. The group consists of several postdoctoral fellows as well as PhD and MSc graduate students. We are studying molecular interactions of heterotrophic bacteria with photosynthetic eukaryotic host organisms. Those host organisms are either terrestrial plants or marine diatoms. In the focus of our research are topics such as bacterial gene expression, exopolymer synthesis, protein secretion, multidrug efflux systems, bacteria-diatom interactions, bio-active compounds of Rhododendron, cocoa metabolomics, and biofilm formation. A total of 60,000 visitors came to the &#8216;Martime Woche&#8217; making this citizens science event a great success.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>July 06, 2016: <strong>Annual Retreat\u00a0of COMETA Project<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2016 Annual meeting of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000\"><a style=\"color: #800000;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"http:\/\/mullrich.user.jacobs-university.de\/cocoa-metabolomics\/\">COMETA<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span> project took place at F\u00e4hrhaus Farge. The research team headed by Profs. Kuhnert, H\u00fctt, Nevoigt, and Ullrich presented and discussed their current results and planned the upcoming year&#8217;s work. This first project meeting of ENVICOPAS helped to straightline research in the different laboratories. Vikram Unitam, Jelle Bjima, and Matthias Ullrich taught a group of undergraduate geoscience and environmental science students different techniques on how to sample water and sediment on high sea. For this, the MS Heincke was cruising on the North Sea for a couple of days.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>March 2016: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mullrich.user.jacobs-university.de\/envicopas-project\/\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">ENVICOPAS Project<\/span><\/a> starts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ENVICOPAS<\/strong> means Impact of <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>ENVi<\/strong><\/span>ronmental changes on <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Co<\/strong><\/span>astal <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Pa<\/span><\/strong>thogen <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>S<\/strong><\/span>ystems. It joins research from Jacobs University (<strong>Prof. Dr. Matthias Ullrich<\/strong> with his group), AWI, ICBM with IFREMER and CNRS SB-Roscoff to investigate how abiotic drivers of environmental change impact the distribution of pathogens in the marine environment.
