The Molecular Microbiology Laboratory at Jacobs University has tight and productive links to research institutions in the Bremen area, Germany-wide, and internationally.
For our interdisciplinary research project on bioactive compounds from Rhododendron, the Ullrich lab is cooperating with several researchers on campus (Klaudia Brix’s Molecular Cell Biology lab, Nikolai Kuhnert’s Phytochemistry lab, the Systems Biology experts Marc-Thorsten Hütt and Anne Arnold, Marion G. Müller’s Visual Communication research group) as well as with the Rhododendronpark Bremen (Hartwig Schepker), our IPR consultants, Iris Kirchner-Freis and Andree Kirchner, the Carl-von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (with plant phylogenetics specialist, Dirk Albach) and Leibniz University Hannover (with Jens Boch and Thomas Reinhard from the Department of Plant Genetics).
Of special importance are the connections to the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology Bremen, the Alfred Wegner Institute for Polar and Marine Research Bremerhaven, the Biological Research Station of the AWI on Helgoland, and the Center for Marine Tropical Ecology Bremen.
Our research is embedded in different graduate programs and research consortia. MarMic and POLMAR are just two prominent examples for this tight scientific network.
The research on industry-driven problems was/is sponsored by BioGate AG, Phytolutions GmbH, and most importantly the World’s leading cocoa company, Barry Callebaut.
